The corridor, built at a cost of more than Rs 8,300 crore, is expected to improve connectivity between Hinjewadi and the rest of the city, offering an alternative to road travel for thousands of daily commuters. The inauguration will take place at 12:30 pm through video conferencing. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the second phase of Pune Metro projects, estimated to cost around Rs 13,500 crore.Pune Metro Pink Line: What makes the 23-km corridor special?

The corridor is expected to benefit IT professionals and other commuters who travel between these areas every day. By offering another public transport option, the project is also expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles, ease traffic congestion and help lower vehicular emissions.
The new line will be integrated with Pune's existing Metro network, allowing passengers to access other parts of the city through interchange stations.

Pune Metro Pink Line to be operated entirely by women
One of the key features of Pune Metro Line 3 is its focus on women's participation in the urban transport sector. In an initiative described as a first of its kind, the entire corridor will be operated by women train operators. The move is expected to create more opportunities for women in the public transport sector and increase their participation in Metro operations. The project also has a sustainability component. Around 30% of the corridor's electricity requirements are planned to be met through solar energy, reducing its dependence on conventional power sources.
Pune Metro Pink Line fare: How much will passengers pay?
The new Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor could be costlier to use than Pune's existing Metro lines. A Pune Mirror report says the proposed ticket price will go up to Rs 62 for trips covering more than 18 km, while the maximum fare on the current network is Rs 35.The fare will depend on the distance travelled. Passengers will be charged Rs 12 for trips of up to 2 km, Rs 25 for 2–4 km, Rs 37 for 4–8 km, Rs 43 for 8–12 km and Rs 49 for 12–18 km. Those travelling beyond 18 km will have to pay Rs 62.
As reported by Pune Mirror, the base fare for the first 2 km is Rs 10. The calculated amount of Rs 12.36 has been rounded down to Rs 12 for ticket collection. The other distance-based fares have also been rounded off to the nearest rupee.
Pune Metro Phase 2: Which areas will the new corridors connect?
Alongside the Pink Line inauguration, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase 2, involving an investment of around Rs 13,500 crore. The expansion will include four corridors: Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A, and extend Metro connectivity to several important parts of the city.
The planned routes will connect areas such as Vanaz, Chandani Chowk, Ramwadi, Vitthalwadi, Kharadi, Khadakwasla, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug and Nanded City.
The expanded network is also expected to improve connections with intercity bus services and existing Metro routes. Key interchange points will include Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass.
Together, the new Pink Line and the proposed Phase 2 corridors are expected to expand Pune's public transport network and provide commuters with more options for travelling across the city.
